As electric vehicles surge in popularity, managing heat dissipation in the power electronics enabling their operation remains a major challenge. Silicon carbide (SiC) transistors allow for smaller, more efficient designs crucial for advances in electric powertrains. However, the high heat flux density from these components risks thermal runaway. Without an engineered thermal interface material (TIM) to rapidly spread and dissipate heat, device and system reliability suffer.
SigmaOx is tackling this thermal bottleneck head-on with custom formulations targeting maximized heat transfer. Our specialized TIM for SiC transistors is tailored to match coefficient of thermal expansion while resisting pump out under pressure. This allows EV power systems to utilize SiC devices at higher densities and frequencies without concentration-driven failures. Customized for the application, SigmaOx TIM also enables improved power output and recharging rates by eliminating thermal throttling. We deliver the interfacing and thermomechanical properties needed to realize SiC’s full potential in EV and other emerging high-power applications.
